Wimax News catches up with Green Packet, a leading solutions developer in the 4G market, in Part I of this exclusive interview with the company’s Senior General Manager, Kelvin Lee:Can you please introduce your company ? What is unique about your new WiMAX USB dongle that is based on Beceem’s BCSM250 single chip solution?

• High Performance at Competitive Price : Beceem’s BCSM250 is a high quality chipset and priced very reasonably. As such, with our new WiMAX USB dongle (referred to the UM Series) we are able to offer a more competitive pricing without jeopardizing quality and performance.
• Low Power Consumption : UM Series, based on Beceem’s chipset consumes low power even while delivering maximum throughput or in idle mode.
• Plug and Play : This device is designed to self-install when plugged in for the first time. With auto provisioning, users can start to enjoy WiMAX without having to enter any account information as their profiles will be automatically loaded from the WiMAX USB Modem. This creates a user friendly environment and minimizes technical support.
• Intelligent Connection : The UM Series incorporates a lifestyle-based intelligent connection manager that facilitates seamless mobility between access networks, for example WiFi, WiMAX and 3G, based on preset or default settings. Additionally, you can offer a single sign-on and authentication to a host of value-added services all via one modern user-friendly interface.
• Superior Performance : UM Series’ unique antenna design combines 3.5dBi dipole antenna and printed antenna, resulting in superior signal quality and robust connection both indoors and outdoors. • Over-the-air Connectivity Management : UM Series supports over-the-air updates that facilitate automatic software/firmware releases and configuration. This helped WiMAX Operators to ensure their subscribers’ devices are up-to-date, thus minimum issues are encountered while trying to get connected to WiMAX. Through software updates transmitted over-the-air, software errors were fixed, translating into better end-user experience and reduced customer complaints.

How does the new DV230 WiMAX modem, which is part of your P1 network in Malaysia, maximize the capabilities of WiMAX technology? WiMAX is technology known to offer both high speed broadband and generous bandwidth. To maximize on the capabilities of WiMAX, DV230 is built with FXS ports to facilitate VoIP. Further to this, DV modems are incorporated with WiMAX SIP VoIP QoS and standard SIP protocol. This helps to sustain the voice transmission during packet loss and limited bandwidth availability, which translates to improved voice quality. Additionally, to fully unleash the wireless experience for end users, DV230 is packaged with 802.11b/g high speed wireless LAN access point that enables multiple WiFi-enabled devices to enjoy wireless WiMAX connectivity anytime, anywhere (within the WiFi range of course!) Field-proved during WiMAX Forum® Congress Asia, Singapore. To elaborate further, I would like to share a successful live demonstration we conducted on P1’s network to a group of WiMAX Operators from around the world during the WiMAX Forum® Congress Asia, Singapore held in April this year. During this demo, DV230 was put the test for video streaming (You Tube) – the buffering speed was amazing, with music videos fully buffered before the first 30% was even played. Next, DV230 was used to place VoIP calls. Some participants were given the opportunity to make domestic and international calls – needless to say the calls were clear and had very little lag time.
